This Week on Rocky Top for July 28-August 3
A look back at headlines from the past week of Vols sports
Lots of football items with fall camp opening this week.
Redshirt Freshman QB Nico Iamaleava told the press that he prefers playing away games. That’s it y’all, this is fully Nico’s team. There’s no hiding behind “growing pains” or “acclimation” if the QB is asking for that smoke, and knowing this kid’s confidence is high has me even more excited to see him play.
Speaking of, we got our first glimpses of the team this week:
And Wes Rucker had this to say about the team’s look:
And while I feel like we’ve heard this kind of talk about the team “looking” different under previous coaching regimes, it just seems more real this time (I’m ready to be hurt again)
2025 DL Darrion Smith committed to Tennessee on Tuesday
Speaking of commits, we quietly posted a recruiting profile of Vol commit Shaedy Hayward this week:
You’ve probably seen the new addition to the Neyland Stadium press box:
But in case you didn’t get the reference:
I do like the look of the lettering behind Johnny, hope they do something to make the new sign pop a little.
Among NFL Vols, Josh Dobbs and Jauan Jennings have reunited in San Francisco. Dobbs had plenty of glowing words for his once and present teammate.
If you’re a believer in New England Patriot starting QB Joe Milton, you can pick up his Cracked Ice Rookie Auto for a cool thousand bucks on eBay right now.
One baseball note, Christian Moore has been called up to the Double-A Rocket City Trash Pandas after just two games of Single-A ball
I might be late on this one, but are you familiar with George Boie Owens on Insta? He’s one of us, y’all:
And if you missed it, here’s a look at Tennessee’s play calling on 3rd downs posted earlier this week:
