Home Sweet Home: Christian Gass
The four-star LB prospect from Georgia committed to Tennessee on July 20th
All Gass, no breaks brakes.
Gass plays at Eastside High School in Georgia’s 5A classification. The Eagles went 8-4 in 2023, finishing 2nd in their region and losing in the 2nd round of the playoffs. Gass totaled 68 tackles with 11 TFLs and 2 sacks in his junior year.
Hudl Film
Full film here. It’s worth a watch, this kid is a very good ballplayer.
He’s athletic:
He has great instincts:
He explodes to and through the ball:
I’m trying to come up with something negative to say so I don’t just sound like a sunshine pumper, but the kid has a really good film. Obviously, none of these kids are going to upload plays that make them look bad, Gass really jumps off the screen with these plays. He stands kind of hunched over in his pre-snap stance rather than having a flat back, so there’s something to work on. Tennessee seems to like linebackers to play at around 230-240 lbs., so the trick for Gass will be to put on a few pounds while keeping his athleticism and explosiveness.
Maybe Kinda Like
Gass is not an easy prospect to find comps for. The three I chose were similar to Gass in size and rating as recruits, but put on varying degrees of weight to make it on the field for UT. Jerod Mayo played at about 230, Curt Maggitt at around 250. You might, like me, have forgotten that Ja'Quain Blakely, who ended his career as a 275 lb. defensive lineman for the Vols, came to Knoxville as a 210 lb. outside linebacker.
As always, these are just comparisons based on position, size, and rating as recruits, and not predictions of future success.
